Meet Melanie Odom, Ask Me About Genealogy Research

Meet Melanie Odom, one of our fabulous librarians! (By the way, if genealogy is your passion, you’ll want to read all about Melanie.)

In her own words … here is Melanie’s introduction:

I was born in Alabama and moved to Florida with my parents in 1963. We lived in various parts of Pinellas County for many years. I received my MLS (master’s in library science) from FSU in 1983 and then took a job as reference librarian here in the Venice Library in December of that year.

I enjoy music, theater, reading and my long membership in the Venice Branch of the American Association of University Women as well as the Friends of Venice Library.

I am in charge of the genealogy section of Venice Library. We have quite a good collection of books as well as a computer devoted to genealogy research that can be used when our genealogy volunteers are here. This is possible thanks to the generous donation by the Friends of Venice Library as some of the resources you can access were purchased by them. We have items including Mayflower ancestors, New England and Irish books, and many more.

We have three volunteers who offer their expertise on Tuesdays and Thursdays (See Calendar of Events or What’s New for dates and times) to help people with their research.
