The Friends of the Venice Public Library invite you to A Campaign Launch Luncheon 

Join us as we welcome Janet Snyder Matthews, a Senator Bob Williams Award-winning historian, as she speaks on the newly reprinted version of her book Venice: Journey from Horse and Chaise. 

Dr. Janet Snyder Matthews focuses on state-owned historic properties in St. Augustine in the Office of the Vice President for University Relations, University of Florida. She is author of the book Edge of Wilderness, A Settlement History of Manatee River and Sarasota Bay, now in its third printing, and author of Sarasota, Journey to Centennial. She served in Tallahassee as Director, Division of Historical Resources and State Historic Preservation Officer, Florida Department of State. Janet also served the National Park Service in Washington as Associate Director, Cultural Resources and Keeper, National Register of Historic Places. Mrs. Matthews will sign books following the presentation.

A fundraiser featuring Venice Library presenter Baila Miller 

Norman Rockwell helped Americans cope with wars, economic disasters, disappointments, and grief. This gentle humanitarian “made every one of us better people.” Frequent Venice Library presenter Baila Miller invites us to a special event, featuring Norman Rockwell (1894-1978), the 20th-century American painter, illustrator, and commercial artist.

Baila Miller explores the role of literature, paintings, architecture, sculpture, cinema, photography, as well as, orchestral and operatic influences in the development of European, Jewish, and modern American culture. She has taught classes at, The University of Memphis, Road Scholar International, Longboat Key Education Center, The Venice Art Center, Historic Spanish Point, Venice Performing Arts Center, and The Ringling College of Art & Design.
