A Campaign Launch Luncheon on November 17, 2017
Recently, the Friends of Venice Public Library celebrated the launch of our capital campaign with a luncheon featuring Dr. Janet Snyder Matthews, author of Venice: Journey from Horse and Chaise. Nearly 90 local dignitaries, sponsors, and friends joined us at the Venetian Golf & River Club to learn about our fundraising efforts on behalf of the new William H. Jervey, Jr. Venice Public Library, and how Dr. Matthews researched and wrote her book on Venice’s history.
Dr. Janet Snyder Matthews focuses on state-owned historic properties in St. Augustine in the Office of the Vice President for University Relations, University of Florida. She is author of the book Edge of Wilderness, A Settlement History of Manatee River and Sarasota Bay, now in its third printing, and author of Sarasota, Journey to Centennial. She served in Tallahassee as Director, Division of Historical Resources and State Historic Preservation Officer, Florida Department of State. Janet also served the National Park Service in Washington as Associate Director, Cultural Resources and Keeper, National Register of Historic Places. Mrs. Matthews will sign books following the presentation.
