On any given month, bookstore volunteers greet hundreds of customers at the Jervey Library Bookstore.

We appreciate all books and media Venice residents generously donate to help fill our shelves, which, in turn, help our customers find their next inspiring book. Donated materials help provide funds for us to support well needed programs, books and events for our public library.

Our prices are low, too. You can take home a hard-cover mystery by your favorite author or a guide to your next travel destination for just $4 or a beautifully illustrated art book or coffee-table book for just $5. While on your way to the beach, stop by for the latest in paperbacks for $2 or $3. In fact, we also sell practically brand-new best sellers donated after just one reading as well as collectibles, including first editions, some inscribed by the author.

Come on in and take a leisurely look around.

Bookstore Sale Events

From time to time throughout every year, Friends organize special book sales where we display hundreds of books and media for immediate discounted sale.

Walter Farley Private Collection.

Known around the world as the author of the beloved Black Stallion book series, Walter Farley built a large private collection, which the Farley family of Venice donated to the Friends after his passing. Hundreds of booklovers and bargain hunters came to the sale on a beautiful day in May.

Funds raised benefited the Walter Farley Literary Landmark at the Jervey Public Library. Friends of the Library sent sincere thanks to the Farley family for their generous donation of Walter Farley’s private collection, which made the sale possible.

Fill-a-Bag Sale.

It’s clear many people rediscovered their love of reading during the pandemic and, as a result, bookstore patrons generously donated thousands of their almost new entertaining and thought-provoking books. In fact, the bookstore was overflowing with books and media.

That’s why, we held a Fill-a-Bag for $5 Sale in October, which helped clear space in the bookstore. Hundreds of booklovers attended the sale, eager to fill a bag of their favorites for such a low price.

Sale Shelves.

You may also find shelves of Buy-One-Get-One-Free promotions whenever you stop by the bookstore.

Book and Media Donation Guidelines

Donated books and media build our inventory, our lifeblood, so we can display full shelves for your reading pleasure. Our rule of thumb for donations is if you would pass it along to a friend, pass it along to the bookstore. Your donations to the Friends are tax deductible.
